Project Tiger was set up in 1972 by the government of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It's aims were simple, to ensure maintenance of a viable population of Tigers and focus on the causes of the massive decline in numbers of the Bengal subspecies. These include, habitat destruction, deforestation and poaching.
There are now 23 reserves included In Project Tiger, an increase from the original nine.
Thus is the focus of this tour. For wildlife and 'old stripes' lovers especially, this trip visits 4 of the major Project Tiger reserves; Sariska, Ranthambhore, Bandhavgarh and Kanha, where Kipling based his famous book. Bharatpur is rated as one of the top bird sanctuaries in the world. Here enjoy the peace and quiet of this tranquil setting as you view the hundreds of migratory and resident species of birds.
On this trip you have the opportunity to view many fine specimens of Indian wildlife such as Sambal Deer, Chittal, Jackal, Hyena, Python, Marsh Crocodile, the Bengal Tiger, elusive Leopard, the occasional porcupine and many bird species rarely seen elsewhere.
